Online Optical Store Designed for VSP Providers
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.- July 22, 2011 – The growth in the online optical market continues to accelerate at an increasing rate. Consumers are browsing and buying optical products online, and this emerging market is becoming an important channel for VSP providers to continue to connect with their patients shopping online.
With this in mind, VSP is launching Eyeconic. In this initial release, consumers can go on eyeconic.com to buy contact lenses, browse sunwear and connect to a VSP provider.
“It seems to me that we have a choice: either to figure out a way to create an online presence and have something to offer this growing category of patients, or simply let them slip away,” said Daniel Mannen, O.D., F.A.A.O., Vice President of Optometric Programs for VSP Global. “The message is pretty clear; we need an online solution to offer our patients.”
Eyeconic is the only online optical store that will pay VSP doctors for providing support services for online purchases. Every patient will be connected back to a VSP doctor. Future Eyeconic developments will include additional products and functionality. The focus of every enhancement will be to support the ability for VSP providers to capture patients online.
“We believe VSP providers should benefit from online sales, and eyeconic.com was created with them in mind,” said Kate Renwick-Espinosa, Chief Marketing Officer, VSP Global. “After extensive dialogue with VSP providers about the online market, we now have a solution to start capturing a share of this emerging market for our providers, beginning with contact lenses. Our goal with Eyeconic is to connect online consumers with VSP providers and provide them with business they wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
