VSP Launches Free Wellness Program

Tips and tools available online to design health and wellness plans
Rancho Cordova, Calif., January 27, 2009 –VSP® Vision Care, the nation’s largest eyecare benefits provider, has launched a wellness program, GetFIT, for members, clients, and visitors to vsp.com. The new program was modeled after a successful internal wellness program VSP currently offers its own employees.
The GetFIT section of the Eyecare Discovery Center on vsp.com hosts a wealth of tools and resources to guide visitors and members on their path to a healthier lifestyle. Participants can use a variety of interactive forms to track progress, establish goals, and stay motivated. There are also resources to help improve diet choices and measure calories burned.
Beyond the tools available to visitors of the site, benefit managers can access specially tailored program plans to help them implement the program in their workplace.
With the cost of healthcare on the rise, many employers are seeking proactive approaches to improve the health of their staff. Implementing the free GetFIT Program on their campus provides a cost-effective and accessible way to improve their employees’ quality of life.
“1,009 of our 2,400 employees have taken part in VSP’s GetFIT Program, and together they’ve lost 8,984 pounds and logged more than 6 million minutes of exercise,” says VSP Payroll and Benefits Manager April Bettencourt. “It’s rewarding to hear employees talk about how their lives have improved by joining exercise and weight-management programs. That’s great for them, and it also helps keep a lid on the soaring cost of healthcare.”
