VSP Global to award nearly $200,000 in college scholarships and paid internships

Program to benefit students in Rancho Cordova, California; Columbus, Ohio; and Melville, New York
Rancho Cordova, CA, May 22, 2012 – VSP Global® today announced that it has developed a scholarship and internship program that will award three graduating high school seniors with four-year college scholarships as well as a paid internship with the company.  The student recipients will collectively be awarded nearly $200,000 to cover four years of tuition and text books costs.
Stephanie Grimaldo, a graduating high school senior at Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, Calif., was recently selected as the first scholarship and internship recipient. VSP Global will award two more students in the coming months; one in the city of Columbus, Ohio, home of its eastern operations center,  and the other in Melville, New York, headquarters of Marchon® Eyewear, VSP Global’s eyewear division.
The company considers a variety of factors when selecting students, including a history of a strong academic performance, community involvement, financial needs and cultural background.
“Through this program, we’re able to better connect with local communities and reward deserving students with the chance to pursue their educational goals,” said Elaine Leuchars, Chief Human Resources Officer of VSP Global. “By combining the scholarship with an internship, we’re providing students with the chance to explore career-readiness opportunities that will prepare them to become more experienced and valuable working professionals.”
