VSP Global Hires Michael Hansen as President of New Global Division
Division will increase focus on business solutions that help VSP doctors become more competitive retailers
In an increasingly competitive marketplace, with rapidly evolving technologies and expanding consumer expectations, VSP Global® announced today the addition of Michael Hansen as president of the company’s newly formed VSP Global Retail Development division, the fifth division within the global optical company.
As the head of the division, Hansen will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization’s focus on creating competitive retail strategies for VSP providers in a growing retail-oriented optical space.
Hansen joins VSP Global after 27 years with Luxottica. With international experience and a demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategies while optimizing revenue and profit streams, he has a proven track record of analyzing cross-business opportunities, focusing on strategic issues and collaboratively building actionable solutions.
Hansen’s most recent Senior Executive appointments include:
- Business Development as VP Sunglass Hut Business Development and Store Operations, leading strategic growth efforts through mergers and acquisitions, and growth of licensed business models with Macy’s and Hudson’s.
- Brand Management as SVP and General Manager Luxury Retail group, leading the development and launch of Luxottica’s first luxury retail brand ILORI.
- Store Development as SVP Strategic Environments, where his team built Sunglass Hut’s first flagship store in Times Square.
“Hiring Michael will allow us to focus even more on collectively offering innovative and personalized eyecare, optical and business solutions that help VSP network doctors become more competitive retailers in an increasingly evolving marketplace,” said Rob Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of VSP Global. “VSP is committed to remaining a vital force in the global vision care space, and we are looking to Michael to be an integral piece in helping craft and execute our strategic plans in the consumer space.
“In 2010 we commissioned Bain & Company to independently evaluate the optical industry and VSP Global so we could further understand the changes in the marketplace, risks to our business model, and opportunities for VSP Global and our partners to have continued success,” continued Lynch. “With Michael joining VSP, we are able to further develop our future market strategy that includes ways to win vision care clients, new channels to connect consumers with our products and services, and tools to help eyecare professionals compete with retail.”
