Carl Zeiss Vision Launches i.Scription by ZEISS in Association with VSP Vision Care
October 07, 2010
Cutting-edge technology package availabe exclusively to VSP providers
San Diego and Rancho Cordova, CA., October 7, 2010 – Carl Zeiss Vision, in association with VSP® Vision Care, today announced the launch of i.Scription® by ZEISS, a technology solution that employs wavefront aberrometry to create uniquely customized lenses, delivering better night vision, improved contrast, and richer color perception to eyeglass wearers. The i.Scription technology package, which includes special package pricing, is available exclusively to VSP’s 27,000 private practice providers.
i.Scription technology consists of three elements:
- i.ProfilerPlus by ZEISS. This instrument combines corneal topography, autorefraction and sophisticated aberrometry in a compact package that more thoroughly analyzes the optical errors of the patient’s eyes in less than a minute.
- i.Scription software. A unique algorithm combines the aberrometry data from i.Profiler with the doctor’s subjective refraction, creating a prescription that is accurate to 1/100th of a diopter, and is optimized for the effects of the patient’s high-order aberrations.
- ZEISS and VSP Reveal™ Freeform customized lenses. The uniquely accurate prescription is used to make lenses that combine wavefront optimization with the existing benefits of free-form lens customization.
“Standard refractions attempt to simulate ideal daylight viewing conditions, and cannot capture the subtle effects of higher-order aberrations. As the pupil gets larger, the effect of high-order aberrations is magnified. This is why many people have difficulty seeing in challenging viewing conditions, such as at night. In the past, we have been unable to evaluate and address this phenomenon. Now the combination of the i.ProflerPlus aberrometer, the i.Scription process, and ZEISS customized lenses make it possible to account for these factors in the prescription and the lens,” said Claude Labeeuw, Carl Zeiss Vision’s Vice President - Marketing.
i.Scription technology is available exclusively on ZEISS customized lenses, including ZEISS Individual™ progressive and single vision lenses, and VSP Reveal™ Freeform lenses. The lenses can be processed through select VSP labs, Carl Zeiss Vision labs, and ZEISS partner labs.
“We are excited to offer VSP providers and their patients exclusive access to Carl Zeiss Vision’s i.Scription technology,” said Gary Brooks, President of VSP Vision Care. “This state-of-the-art technology will help elevate the patient experience to a new level, as the individualized prescription it provides helps support and differentiate the quality of care that only a private practice eyecare provider can deliver.”
“Both Carl Zeiss Vision and VSP Vision Care are dedicated to supporting private-practice optometry, and working together to promote i.Scription helps us further that goal,” said Joe Donahoe, Carl Zeiss Vision’s President , North America-Pacific. “i.Scription will enhance the personalized care that sets private practices apart, while increasing patient satisfaction and Rx capture. We’re proud to be associated with VSP Vision Care as we bring this technology to the market.”
