Celebrating Our Million Milestone
You’ve heard me say it before, but today it couldn’t ring more true: our mission at VSP Global® is to help people see. Today we are celebrating an incredible milestone, providing no-cost eye care and eyewear for one million people in need through our Eyes of Hope® charitable platform.
Eyes of Hope initiatives are dedicated to increasing access to quality vision care for those who are disadvantaged by income, distance, or disaster. From gift certificates for no-cost eye care in a VSP doctor’s office, to our first mobile eye care clinic providing disaster relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, to our sustainable child eye health project in South Africa, Eyes of Hope has been executing our mission of helping people see for more than a decade.
Today, one of our VSP Mobile Eyes clinics is at the Monarch School in San Diego, a school for students impacted by homelessness. We visit the school twice a year to provide no-cost eye exams and glasses for these students and their loved ones. Due to a number of circumstances, the students and their families are often unable to travel to optometry offices, leaving them with little to no access to eye care. Removing their barriers by providing onsite care ensures that the students will receive the care they need to be able to see clearly. With clear vision, these promising students are better positioned to succeed in school and in their future.
This accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication from VSP employees, doctors who volunteer on the clinics, many partner organizations, our members who by simply choosing VSP allow us to continue in these efforts, and countless others who have given their time and energy to Eyes of Hope.
As we celebrate this amazing milestone, I’m proud to look back on the hard work it took to get here. I’m also looking forward to our next milestone: providing access to one million more by 2020.
