World Sight Day
There is no doubt about it, vision is one of our most treasured gifts. It is an awesome privilege to be able to help safeguard the vision of our patients. And even beyond, it is truly rewarding to extend much needed care to the underserved in our communities. I am happy to highlight a great opportunity for optometric physicians to provide community outreach in conjunction with World Sight Day on October 10, 2013.
VSP Global, the Georgia Optometric Association, and the World Sight Day Coalition are hosting a community outreach event in Atlanta October 9-13, 2013, to meet the World Sight Day Challenge. With all three VSP Mobile Eyes clinics and additional portable lanes in action, the goal is to provide up to 2,000 eye exams for the underserved population in the Atlanta area.
To make this effort a success, there is a need for doctors who will volunteer to see patients in the VSP Mobile Eyes clinics in Atlanta. VSP Global will be coordinating patient registration and scheduling, and volunteer doctors are needed to provide the care.
Please watch the following video to learn more about volunteering with VSP Mobile Eyes. To date, more than 1200 VSP doctors have volunteered onboard the mobile clinics, providing vision care to more than 170,000 people in need.
If you can't participate in the Atlanta event, you can celebrate with us by accepting the World Sight Day Challenge in your own practice, or register to volunteer for other events throughout the year.
As I See It, optometric physicians have a great opportunity to impact their communities by participating In the World Sight Day Challenge. The need is great and we can make a real difference. Please consider volunteering your time and expertise for the benefit of the underserved around us. I can promise you a rewarding experience.
